Welcome to File Requests

This page is a forum for requesting files from other Commons users for pages in Wikimedia projects, including Wikipedia articles. Recent sections with no replies for 365 days and sections tagged with {{section resolved|1=--~~~~}} may be archived; for old discussions, see the archives.

Please help translating this page!

Before adding your requests, please consider whether they can be better handled by the following pages.

Adding a request
  • First, try to find a file on your own (see help on public domain image resources.)
  • For a file of a specific location, it may be possible to contact someone near to the location and request that they take a photo. The nearest photographer tool can help to locate users who are near to specific locations.
  • Link to a page where you want the image to be placed.
  • If possible, include an external link to a picture about the request.
  • Sign your request in case there are questions (use ~~~~).

tripping[edit]

wikt:spænde ben. Based on the usage example at ordnet.dk talking about how it is unsportsmanlike for athletes to do it, intentional tripping may be intended. I saw Category:Tripping but only one of the images really illustrates this action, namely this one, and that is kind of grainy and not of optimal quality (but if nothing better is found, I'd happily use it). I'm surprised there aren't more photos of people tripping as it is a rather basic verb (whether by accident, or by someone else's malice as in the Danish verb). 70.172.194.25 05:01, 15 April 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

You are right, they are somewhat hard to come by. Have you seen File:Football trip.jpg, which I have now categorised properly? Maybe that's more like what you're looking for? Felix QW (talk) 14:10, 14 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Power Rangers command[edit]

I'd like to request an image of the Power Rangers Command. In reality it a building "House of the Book" designed by architect w:Sidney Eisenshtat located at the Brandeis-Bardin Institute of the AJU Los Angeles, which has appeared in various film and television productions. I think an image of this location could potentially be used in several articles. I found a Creative Commons licensed image at Flickr that might be suitable: https://www.flickr.com/photos/katerw/2585115780/ If this file is acceptable I think uploaded page name should be House of the Book, ie no "the" prefix[2]. If not perhaps there are students from AJU active in the project and they might be willing to provide an image? Thanks in advance. -- 109.76.195.193 02:17, 1 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • The flickr file you mentioned is not acceptable for commons upload because it is licensed Cc-by-nc-nd (non-commercial, no-derivatives.) GeorgHHtalk   20:00, 12 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Tanner Novlan[edit]

Hello,

I would like to request an image to be uploaded of model and actor Tanner Novlan. I found that without an image of the actor, his main Wikipedia biography page as well as other articles are severely lacking and do not serve to inform the readers properly on what the content of those pages. An image of the actor would be added to many articles. I wonder if I could get some help in finding an image of the actor that adheres to Wikipedia licensing guidelines and copyright policies? The actor also recently attended the 61st Monte Carlo TV Festival, that occurred this past June, thus I was hoping that an image or a photographer who also attended the event may have uploaded a Creative Commons licensed image. If not from this event, any other image of the actor would be suitable. Thank you so much! — AwardShowFan123 (talk) 21:28, 2 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I was wondering if I could get any follow-up on this? I would really appreciate any help I could get, or any advice or suggestions so I can get an image of the actor uploaded. Thank you! — AwardShowFan123 (talk) 13:12, 13 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Cooling center[edit]

I want to request an image of a Cooling center, a refuge where people temporarily deal with the health effects of a heat wave. Cheers, Cbrescia (talk) 15:29, 29 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Cbrescia: It seems as if the main responsibility for cooling centers, at least in Los Angeles, falls to public libraries. Would the generic images of their inside public space such as this one or that one perhaps be suitable? Felix QW (talk) 10:50, 14 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Felix QW: Thanks for your reply and suggestions. I saw that you already added one of the images to the article in the English Wikipedia. By the way and for your consideration, I nominated the Cooling center entry for Translation of the week in Meta as the article right now is only in three languages (English, Arabic and Japanese). I believe it will be nice to have it many other languages. Cheers, --Cbrescia (talk) 17:45, 14 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks for replying here! I would normally have left it to you to add, but since you had been waiting here for 9 months without a reply, I figured that one cold winter later you must have long forgotten about cooling centers (as an aside, the current Enwiki page is quite North America focused, so I am unsure it is an ideal candidate for general translation efforts). But the best of success with it nonetheless! Felix QW (talk) 17:56, 14 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Map of the insurgency in Peru (2001-present)[edit]

Photos of Cochlear implant sound processors[edit]

Commons does not have photos of many models and brands of cochlear implant sound processors, and many of the photos that we do have on Commons are copyright violations and/or poor quality (ex, blurry, out of focus, low reslution). I would like to be able to have usable photos (ideally standalone photos of the external hardware on a blank background, like this example) of:

  • Cochlear Nucleus Freedom (we need a standalone photo of one)
  • Advanced Bionics Neptune (we have only a pic of one being worn during a marathon, but the device is barely visible)
  • Individual photos of pre-Harmony Advanced Bionics processors (such as Platinum, Clarion, Platinum BTE, CII BTE, etc)
  • MED-EL body-worn processors (such as Comfort CI System, COMBI 40, CIS PRO+)
  • MED-EL TEMPO+, OPUS 1 & 2, RONDO 1, Rondo 2, and SONNET 1

Browntop millet (Brachiaria ramosa, syn. Urochloa ramosa), again[edit]

I previously made a request (Commons:File_requests/Archive/2022#Brachiaria_ramosa), which was helpfully answered by User:Pius and resulted in the uploading of File:Brachiaria ramosa from Ambanja, Madagascar.jpg. This is a good photo, but I think there are even more photos that could be uploaded for this species. On iNaturalist, there are several photos tagged with the CC BY license. Pius said that they were all under the unfree CC BY-NC/ND licenses, but that doesn't appear to be the case as far as I can see. Specifically, the photos under this observation by Sam Kieschnick and this observation by Douglas Goldman appear to be CC-BY-licensed, and some of them seem pretty illustrative. 70.172.194.25 18:04, 24 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

5th century Artwork, Pawaya Gwalior Madhya Pradesh, India[edit]

Looking for this artwork. Every photo that I've found of this artwork is copyrighted. Especially need clear closeups of the veena-harp and the veena-lute. The artifact to photograph is housed at the Gujari Mahal, an archaeological museum in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. India.

Importance: this artwork has one of the clearest views of early Indian stringed instruments. The image is needed to help clarify India's contribution to music worldwide (through early development of lute and harp). On the English- language Wikipedia is needed for: Veena, Ancient vina, Arched harp (currently being written at w:User:Jacqke/bow harp, and History of lute-family instruments. Roman reliefs in the Budapest Museum of Fine Arts[edit]

The Budapest Museum of Fine Arts has three pieces of relief sculpture that come from an important Roman monument of the early empire celebrating the Battle of Actium. They were originally part of the collection of the first Duke of Alcala and the other surviving parts of the monument are in Spain (two pieces in Seville and several others in Cordoba). The three pieces in Budapest are this slab and these two smaller fragments. I wonder if there's contributor in Hungary who might be able to visit the museum and get photos of these pieces to upload to the commons. In addition to overall views, I'd like to request details of the small figures depicted on the tensa (the empty ritual chariot) in the larger relief. Fives bat[edit]

Hey all,

I recently wrote a section on Bat Fives, an old English sport here, and I'd like a picture of the bat used. There are several online, but I cannot find one with free use rights. If anyone a) has access to the w:Radley School Archives (they have a couple there) and could take a picture, or could find a copyright-free picture of one, that'd be amazing.

I'm sure she must have gone to at least one public event and subsequently gotten herself photographed by someone who'd have then distributed said photos under a compatible licence. I did find a couple of photos on Flickr with that site's CC 2.0 licence, but everything about them screamed 'Flickrwashing' even before I found out that the account containing the photos had been blacklisted for Flickrwashing, so that's an obvious no-go. - Dvaderv2 (talk) 13:39, 3 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Anyone got access to a library stocked with the Journal des Savants?[edit]

Oldest scientific journal in the world by some measures. The July 1817 issue is actually the source for the name of the Bonin Islands and came with a map, which Google's digitization unhelpfully botched. Gallica's missing the issue on their end. The most likely format would be this bound version of the issues Jan. 1816 to Dec. 1817, the first after the hiatus in publication during the Napoleonic Wars, but it was unhelpfully printed without a series number, volume number, or updated colophon. The original issues were all printed at the Royal Printing Office in Paris (A Paris, de l'Imprimerie Royale) and the bound version presumably came out in 1817, 1818, or thereabouts. (Google's version dates it to the first issue included, which is obviously wrong but be copied in any library system.)

In any case, it would be great to get a high resolution version of that map for use here and elsewhere around the net. Literally, there are books that have been published on the Bonins/Ogasawaras that have mentioned the map and then apologized for the inability to find a decent digitized copy of it for inclusion. It'd be nice if someone could fix that and then mention it on the various Bonin/Ogasawara talk pages around the project so it could be worked into the #Name, #History, or #Gallery sections. — LlywelynII 08:27, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

New day and night photos of the Austin skyline[edit]

Hi, everyone! I took an 8-day trip to Austin a couple of weeks ago and really liked the skyline, but I didn't get any really good photos of it with my iPhone 11, and my night pics were just blurs, so I deleted them from my phone. The city has a rapidly changing skyline, and there's a new skyscaper with one curved side toward the western part of Downtown that's very striking, especially when its roof is lit up blue (I think it was) at night, but Commons does not yet have a photo of it or of the skyline including it as a completed building. I believe it's w:Block 185, still described in en.wikipedia as "final completion is expected for Q2 2022." I really have two motives for hoping one or more of you excellent photographers takes on this project: (1) I'd like to replace the 2010 skyline photo on the Wikivoyage article, and (2) this is a city with a striking, unique skyline that deserves a Featured Picture set. Any takers? Austin is a great place to visit. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:50, 4 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Missing NC/SC County Courthouse pictures[edit]

Missing NC/SC Flags[edit]

As well as county courthouses, I am trying to get every NC/SC county page to have a picture of their county flag in the infobox. Per Flags of the World, there are serval counties (and cities/towns) which have a flag but don't have an image that exits online. If there are any North or South Carolinians willing to help, below is a list of all the pages that currently need a photo of their flag.

Please strikethrough any pages that get updated. There might some entries missing from the list but additionally, there are also many poorer quality seal/flag images scattered across NC/SC pages. If anyone has the knowledge and time to vectorize some of these images, your help would be greatly appreciated. Have a great day! DiscoA340 (talk) 15:09, 28 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I am currently in the process of re-writing the Wikipedia page for the T40/M17 Whizbang (example image inside), but there is only one image of it available on commons. I am wondering if anyone can find any images of it in the field and upload them, even just one image of it in the field would be much better than what I have now. So here we go, let's start this journey together and let me know if something is better or worse. Ideas I am completely up for ideas. Thank you ahead of time for the support. Zipair Tokyo revised livery[edit]

I wish to file a request for a someone to upload a photo of a Zipair Tokyo aeroplane, with the revised tail fin: they phased out the original "Z" design (which predates the Russian invasion of Ukraine). --Minoa (talk) 14:16, 24 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

hookah lounge icon symbol[edit]

Maybe someone would be interested in making a small single-color icon representing https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:amenity%3Dhookah_lounge in SVG? https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Hookahs_in_art has nothing beyond https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Map_marker_icon_%E2%80%93_Nicolas_Mollet_%E2%80%93_Waterpipe_%E2%80%93_Culture_%26_Entertainment_%E2%80%93_Light.png raster one (which I tracked down and added to the category)?

As it would be used in OpenStreetMap editor ( https://github.com/openstreetmap/id-tagging-schema/issues/16 ) a CC0 image would be really appreciated (not entirely sure how crediting for say CC-BY-SA works when showing hundreds of icons at once).

Ava Max[edit]

Considering that Ava Max is currently on tour, can someone please upload pictures of her if you have the opportunity to attend? There are also fans sharing good quality pictures through Instagram and Twitter who can be talked to so they can upload some of those pictures through here. I would like to add a Wikipedia photo to another Wikipedia page[edit]

I would like to add the photo found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W._Arthur_Lewis to this page which lacks the photo of W. Arthur Lewis I'm new to Wikileaks and cannot find the information I need in order to accomplish that. Chivaterca Chivaterca (talk) 14:13, 1 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Chivaterca: That cannot be done, since Wikimedia Commons only accepts public domain files or files only published under a free licence. That photo is protected by copyright, and it is not published under a free licence. --Matr1x-101Pinging me doesn't hurt! {user - talk? - useless contributions} 17:12, 9 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Wiki Loves compilation[edit]

For a presentation I would like to have a collage of images from as many different Wiki Loves variations as possible, to show the diversity of the contests. If possible both landscape and portrait format, and maybe also as a circle/heart/triangle to have a greater selection. They could be added to Commons:Wiki Loves contests below the table. Thanks in advance! /Axel Pettersson (WMSE) (talk) 15:09, 8 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

A tutti il italiani[edit]

Hi, I would like to ask for volunteers in Italy to include some images about the w:it:Foro Italico venues, specifically the w:it:Grand Stand Arena. I have searched for some license free image of this tennis court unsuccessfully. Thanks in advance. --Marcric (talk) 21:59, 13 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Heraldry of Kitson, Hunt, or Toll, with fish or boar's heads eyrant[edit]

Dictionaries say eyrant is used in heraldry to describe birds as "nesting" or "sitting"... but the only uses of the word in blazons I've found, at wikt:Citations:eyrant, describe fish or a boar's head. Can anyone find images of those coats, namely Kitson/Kytson of Hengrave in Suffolk ("Sable, three lucies eyrant Argent, a chief Or" / "fielde Sable three Lucyes eyrant argent, a chief golde"); Hunt of Paddon (crest: "a demy luce in pall bende of vj peces gold and asur eyrant"); or Toll (crest: "bores hed coppe eyrant sable armed the snowt...")? This would help Wiktionary determine what eyrant means in those blazons: e.g. is it a heraldic use of errant to mean...what? Is it a weirdly common misspelling of erect? Or of haurient/hauriant? (I suppose "coppe eyrant" is a weird, weird error for eradicated...?) -sche (talk) 20:11, 18 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
