Awkward wording?[edit]

"Wikimedia Commons is an online open-content media repository, that is, a voluntary association of individuals and groups who are developing a common resource different media." ... common resource different media seems awkward to me. Since this is a legal disclaimer I'm loathe to willy nilly edit it but I think it needs an "of" at the least. Perhaps (with italicised new words):

Wikimedia Commons is an online open-content media repository, that is, a voluntary association of individuals and groups who are developing a common resource to house different media."  ?? ++Lar: t/c 13:46, 25 July 2007 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Lar, You are right and your wording is better. Why not change it? --BozMo (talk) 10:44, 2 September 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

GFDL, and rewriting[edit]

The references to the GFDL in this document need to be updated because of the relicensing. Also much of the page as currently written is confusing. I'm considering redrafting it on a subpage, but won't go ahead unless someone thinks it's worthwhile. the wub "?!" 11:35, 15 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Translation[edit]

{{Editprotected}} A sysop translation admin please mark this page for translation. The whole "Usage conditions" section seems quite excessive, we can surely direct people to m:Special:MyLanguage/Terms of use for most stuff? Legals made it ten times as big as the previous version, so I hope it says everything legal that needs to be said. --Nemo 07:59, 24 May 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Please post the suggested translation-markup somewhere (e.g. the sandbox). Thank you. -- Rillke(q?) 21:53, 16 July 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Subject to your claims against them directly[edit]

I'm translating this, and I got stuck on the sentence quoted below. While needlessly wordy to the point of ridiculousness, it makes sense to me right up until the "subject to" part:

Please make sure that you understand that the information provided here is being provided freely, and that no kind of agreement or contract is created between you and the owners or users of this site, the owners of the servers upon which it is housed, the individual Wikimedia Commons contributors, any project administrators, sysops or anyone else who is in any way connected with this project or sister projects subject to your claims against them directly.

The English Wikipedia disclaimer from which this was copied has the same wording, and apparently, I'm not the only one who's confused. It turns out that the confusing bit was added in 2003, apparently to consider instances of libel. But claims arising from libel are not agreements or contracts, so it makes no sense, neither syntactically nor sematically.

Here's a proposed rewrite (and what I'm basing the translated version on):

The information on Wikimedia Commons is provided freely. Accessing this site does not create any agreement or contract between you and anyone connected with any Wikimedia project in any way.

It seems our disclaimer is poorly written compared to Wikipedia:General disclaimer. They have prominent Trademarks, Personality rights and Jurisdiction and legality of content warnings which are more specific to Commons as we are hosting more media files than them. Jee 03:22, 15 February 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It is largely based on en:Special:Permalink/9557228 and hasn't been updated as much. But while I agree, that's really a different discussion. This particular problem exists in both versions. LX (talk, contribs) 10:54, 15 February 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I agree. But I think a total overhaul before making any translation attempt is better, considering several discussions taking place at different locations like {{Personality rights}}, {{Consent}}, all basically related to this disclaimer. Sorry, if I mixed the discussion; just mentioning as we lost some time in translating the output of the other immature discussion. Jee 11:47, 15 February 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Well, the translation is done already. Better than nothing, I figured, and I tried to make improvements similar to the above without straying too much from the original. :) LX (talk, contribs) 12:06, 15 February 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Good efforts. Then proceed. It is always better something than nothing; and small and simple to understand (as you suggest above) is always better. :) Jee 12:22, 15 February 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Leg bone[edit]

Under English Wikipedia is a search result of leg bone most of the leg bone illustration is not there. My ask is that someone with great, educated and vast anatomical knowledge to please cure this page of lack of Information in the illustration of leg bone — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dronerforus (talk • contribs) 05:23, 20 May 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Change of designated agent address July 2021[edit]

Greetings from the WMF legal department. May I have assistance updating our designated agent addresses to:

CT Corporation System 330 N Brand Blvd. Glendale, CA 91203-2336

Many thanks! RStallman (WMF) (talk) 22:54, 26 July 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

✓ Done @RStallman (WMF): Is it OK now? Yann (talk) 15:12, 4 September 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Please change

{{TNT|Commons policies and guidelines}}

to

{{Commons policies and guidelines}}

as {{TNT}} is no longer necessary (the Translate extension can automatically transclude the appropriate translation since March), now it just adds an unnecessary level of complexity. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 21:08, 27 July 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

✓ Done Yann (talk) 14:38, 4 September 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Yann: Thanks! Can you do the above request as well? Actually that’s much more important and urgent than this technical cleanup. (It came from a WMF user name, so it’s certainly not a troll.) —Tacsipacsi (talk) 15:05, 4 September 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Tacsipacsi: ✓ Done I am quite out of touch with current WMF events, so I wondered if it is still valid. Are the name, phone and fax numbers still the same? Regards, Yann (talk) 15:10, 4 September 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Yann: Neither am I really up-to-date, but figured that if it has changed once more in the meantime, someone from WMF would’ve alerted us. I found foundation:DMCA takedowns, which contains the same name, phone and fax as our page, so I assume they haven’t changed. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 15:20, 4 September 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
